Beetlejuice Themed Coffin Trinket Jewelry Box

This is a product of hanging out with my friend; we were drinking, laughing and feeling crafty while watching tons of Tim Burton movies while we counted the days until we got to attend the Danny Elfman "Music from the Films of Tim Burton" event we had tickets for!! So we decided to paint ourselves some little trinket boxes. Beetlejuice is hands down my favorite TB film, so I made this little box based around him. I used a range of different types of acrylic paints: Matte, gloss, glitter, metallic, neon- depending on what area of the box I was working on.

The sides are white/black striped like his outfit, the front of the coffin has a black base with a gold and green glitter paint over it. Then I used Stencilgram.com to convert a photo of the ghost with the most into a simple black and white stencil style photo. To make it small enough to fit on the front of the box the photo had to be less than 2" big, so it was too small (read: I didn't have enough patience to cut out all the small details) to actually cut everything out and use as a proper stencil. SO, I used this as a reference and just sketched him on the front of the box with a pen, so the lines were visible enough when painting him on the front of the box, then splashed around him with some bright green paint. The tombstone/title graphic is an image from the movie, printed on a shrink plastic, topped with a clear glaze and then affixed to the box. The inside I wanted to look like the inside of a coffin and wanted to use purple, which other than black/white and green is a color I associate this movie with. I used a metallic purple paint and made the top look like coffin lining, the bottom of the coffin I splattered with more bright green paint to make it look like ectoplasm remains and to match the front of the box. 

It was a fun project and I really liked the way the themed box came out, so I thought I would share it.
